Foreign ownership of real estate has been legal in Honduras since 1991. Although there are size limits for private ownership (3,000 square meters/ .74 ac), any size purchase can be obtained via a Honduran Corporation.

In 2003 three of the real estate company Brokers (RE/MAX, Roatan Life and Margot & Matt), created what now is the RRA (Roatan Real Estate Association), and the MLS (Multiple Listing Service), believed to be the only one available in the Caribbean, Central or South America, now having over a decade of data to assist you in listing or purchasing property. Unlike many MLS systems in the U.S.  this one is available to the public for searches by Island, areas on the islands (mainly Roatan and Utila). This advanced software allows searches by both property types and prices.

U.S. STANDARDS

The RRA was also set up based on U.S Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics available at

The National Association of REALTORs web site, Offices in Chicago, Il.

The Members of the RRA, (and there are real estate companies that are not members), operate

Very much like they do in the U.S. and generate both Listings and Sales Agreements in English, (though a far simpler format and content than you may be used to.
